How to Take the Perfect Ring Selfie

Whether you’ve just gotten engaged and can’t wait to show off your new ring or suspect a proposal is imminent, it’s important to know how to take a great ring selfie and boast on your new bling!

Here are some tips on how to perfectly capture a stunning engagement ring selfie:

Good Lighting is Key

Having good lighting is the main rule of thumb for pretty much any photo, but it is especially important when you are trying to capture a picture of your diamond. Being outside in natural lighting is the most ideal option, however, if you’re unable to do so, or really want to take the photo indoors you should try to take the photo near a bright window. If the room is dim or has fluorescent or yellow bulbs the photo will likely turn our blurry and grainy. Natural sunlight is the way to go with diamonds. Also, don’t forget to pay attention to shadows when taking pictures so they don’t detract from your ring.

Know Your Ring

Everyone’s engagement ring is different. Just because your girlfriend was able to take a stunning photo of her ring from a certain angle doesn’t mean you’ll have success capturing an identical photo. Try taking photos at different angles until you determine the one that highlights it best.

Do Your Nails

You don’t need to get an Instagram worthy manicure before showing off your engagement ring in photos. But it is a good idea to get your nails done before you start snapping photos. Try a bright color that really pops and shows off your ring, or if you prefer a more classic look, go for subtle, neutral toned nails.

If you are caught off guard by the proposal and don’t have your nails done and really want to post a picture right away get creative. Try taking a photo holding hands with your fiance, with a closed fist, or if all else fails, take a close enough shot that your nails aren’t even in the photo.

Find a Fun and Exciting Backdrop & Strike a Pose

Did you get engaged on the beach? Use the ocean as a backdrop. If there are flowers nearby they can also make for a stunning backdrop, as can a sunset or any other local scenery.

Once you found the perfect backdrop try a bunch of poses until you find the most flattering one. Get creative, be adventurous and try something new. You never know what will become the perfect shot of your engagement ring.

Refrain From Zooming

When it comes to engagement ring poses, it may be tempting to zoom in on your pretty new ring, but since you’re likely taking the photo on your camera zooming in will likely cause the picture to go out of focus and become pixelated. Instead, set up your shot and tap the screen to focus the lens. It’s also a good idea to use either a Bluetooth remote or your earbuds to snap the photo instead of tapping on the screen itself.

Take a Ton of Photos

It’s unlikely that you’ll get the perfect shot on the first try. The only way to capture that perfect photo is by taking lots and lots of photos of your ring. Then take your time to go through them and find the best one. If none are great, then see what angles, positions, and poses looked best and then perfect them.

Edit the Photo Before Posting

There are tons of apps and photo filters available both free and paid to edit your images. Even a little editing will go a long way in elevating your photo quality. Don’t be shy to try a bunch of different things to see what works best and really make your ring pop!

Write the Perfect Facebook or Instagram Engagement Ring Caption

Now that you’ve finally captured that perfect photo of your new engagement ring, it’s time to caption it. Write something that is true to you and your fiance and captures the essence of your relationship. It can be lighthearted and fun to sweet and romantic. Whatever you decide on, take your time to get it just right.
